Distribution Solutions challenge:

Intelligent safety for sustainable electrification

We are looking for startups and scaleups who are ready to integrate with our team, products and solutions.

Today, we have offline safety instructions and standard operating procedures to follow in order to operate or maintain electrical equipment in a substation. This has been the standard of managing and sustaining safety for decades. To elaborate:

  • The safety of a person in electrical substation depends mainly on the distance from a nearby operating electrical equipment and the operational status of those equipment.

  • The understanding of where the person is in the substation with respect to all the electrical equipment is a basic cornerstone for development of online safety awareness system.

  • Having visual safety cues can help maintain the safety of persons by constantly guiding them throughout their daily operations.

With the rapid development of digital capabilities, we believe that digitalization can play a significant role in upgrading safety solutions.

We are looking for intelligent sensing and visualization solutions, that can be intuitively used to increase the safety awareness of personnel approaching electrical equipment.

Key technologies

  • Human presence detection

  • Distance detection (accuracy in cm)

  • Handsfree display of information

Application domains:

  • 3D spatial mapping

  • Position detection

The winner award is:

A project for a PoC, worth up to $30,000, with the ultimate goal to be productized and offered to ABB customers
